Psalm 40:3
Music has the power to unite people & create community. It is a common ground; a universal language. Music uses lyrics, rhythm, melody, tones, chords, harmony & individual notes to paint an audible picture. This picture evokes feelings. Like a bookmark for your journey in life, a song can remind you of a time, a place, a smell, a person, or an activity because it is so deeply rooted in your senses & emotions. I believe when we praise God in song it brings us closer to Him as we are sharing one of our purest forms of creativity with our own creator.
Mission in my heart is not a band, it is a music ministry. It is one person. My name is David Bennett. I started dabbling in music during my childhood. I played in rock bands in the late 80's & then found myself married with children in the early 2000's. My dreams of Rock stardom had long faded, but my love of music and the creativity it sparked in me was alive and well. As a young church going family, I found myself drawn to Christian praise and worship music. I started playing guitar in the church ministry while my wife sang in the choir and the kids were in Sunday school. It was there that I felt the intense spiritual movement & emotion that a worship song can draw out of not only myself, but the entire congregation. I fell in love with the sing-alongs to old hymns, praise songs & contemporary Christian music. I loved Acts like Chris Tomlin, The David Crowder band, Mercy me, & the Passion albums. They consistently uplifted and inspired me in my faith. I escaped into my guitar at night when I had to put the kids to bed. I would lullaby them to sleep as I creatively messed around singing and playing on my guitar. The kids loved it and so did I. Many of the songs you will hear from me were formulated during that time period. This was during the early to mid 2000’s. I felt God's whisper that I should explore this creative side more, but I had a career that was going well and a family to support, so my nightly bedtime concerts was all I could muster. Flash-forward to 2022, some 17 years later, the kids are grown and the soft urging from God's whisper has become more of a persistent & loud calling. I’ve spent the last 2 years putting the finishing touches on some of the old songs and have written some new ones. Recording in my basement using Garage Band, playing all the instruments, with the exception of drums (Special thanks to www.betamonkey.com for the awesome drum loops & fills that have allowed me to create some pretty complex drum tracks), learning how to sing & build vocal harmonies (still a work in progress), mixing, mastering, etc. All so I could do what I feel God has been asking me to do all along; bring these songs into the world for whatever His purposes are. This is the culmination of the Mission in my heart - My ministry. My hope is that Jesus is glorified, honored, and praised in these songs. I also hope that people will be moved & inspired by this music as much as the music of other artists has moved & inspired me throughout my life.
